Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop the conceptual framework based on nur-sing theory for curriculum building. The conceptual framework consisted of philosophy of nursing, the settillg, the student and the knowledge. Data were collected from 1st September, 1989 to 30th June, 1990. Philosophy of nursing and the knowledge were accomplished by several faculty¢¥s workshops and literlature reviews. The studies about the educational setting and the student were carried out by survey method. Mean, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, X©÷-test, stepwise multiple regression and factor analysiswere used to analyze the data.
The results are summarized as follows;
1. Philosophy of nursing
Through the education imbued with "Love in Deed and Truth", the nursing faculty assumes responsibility for promoting effective nursing for the public and for establishing the students value system based on humanistic existentialism. We realize the education for the whole person grounded on the nature of nursing which is to respect diginity and rights of man to be unristricted by consideration of nationality, race, colour or social status.
2. The setting
1) The most important quality, function and role of the nurses were in order of a direct nursing care provider, health educator ana counselor, researcher, administrator and community leader.
2) The educational contents for the direct nursing care provider were in order of a competence of basic nursing treatment in emergency situation, having the knowledge about procedures, side reaction of medicine and how to adjust on crisis and a understanding and copidg with human¢¥s basic need.
3. The student
They were admitted to their university without previous guidance of their major, because the motives of application to study was simply decided according to the grades of entranceexam. The higher their grades were, the more they satisfied with their major and they had a better prospects about their specialty. Self-concept in home aspects was more positive perception than in social aspects and self control aspects.
4. The knowledge
1) The elements of curriculum consisted of axioms, concepts, skills and values and the systems of care consisted of indlvldual, family and community.
2) The theoretical system of nursing curriculum was based on system theory. Input for the nursing system comprised educational philosophy and goals. Throughput consisted of body of knowledge. Output comprised the behaviors and skills of nursing.
In conclusion, philosophy of nursing based on the philosophy of the university and the philosophical agreements of the faculty was accomplished through this study. The philosophy¢¥of nursing, the setting, the student and the knowledge, was developed as a conceptual framework.
Therefore, the subsequent study for the course to vivify and to evaluate is indispensable for curriculum building.
